Awesome April

The fact that I am just now getting to my April re-cap means my life is full of blessings, such as a new house that draws on our time to make it a home, and a trip to Ohio for our daughter's graduation.

Sometimes, especially at the change of seasons, it is fascinating to look back at photos from last month - how much Nature has changed in just six short weeks!  As I prepared this post, I found myself whispering 'wow' and squinting through my glasses to make sure I had read the photo dates correctly.  Want to see what I mean?  Let's go look!

These ski resort pictures were taken on April 7, the day before ski season closed.  In Whitefish, the end of the season is set by the Forest Service, to ensure limited encounters between humans and bears as the bears emerge from hibernation.  It's certainly not for lack of snow!!!

Lest you think the Forest Service is being overly cautious .. . thousands of people followed a Glacier National Park web cam for 3 weeks (beginning around March 24), to watch a black bear in a sycamore tree.  Here are some of the screen shots I captured - isn't he an entertaining fellow (from a distance)?

Once warmer temperatures arrive to the lower elevations, the snow disappears quickly.  My trail cam documented not only wildlife, but the receding snow banks around our house.

Speaking of trail cams, I was so delighted last month to capture another coyote picture, this one in the daylight!!!  And a fabulous series with a turkey!

Here are some other pictures documenting snow around our house - now you see it, now you don't!

It may surprise you to see Easter pictures in this post ... but I include them here for 2 reasons - one, Easter was April 1 - so it belongs in the April re-cap!!!  Two- we just ate the last of the Easter candy - does your holiday candy linger, or does it disappear rather quickly in your house?

Like the Easter candy, some of my 2018 goals are ... lingering.  I haven't done much cooking lately, and I am a little behind on my tea towel embroidery.

And I think I have a reasonable excuse - check out my new blogging studio on the back deck ...

  1. Hi Angie,
FABULOUS photos to recap April. It is amazing how only two weeks ago here we were complaining about snow. Your new blogging post looks SO inviting. I would love to come and rock with you for a bit, chat now and then, and just listen to nature. You can almost hear the snow melting if you really listen. Easter candy - we don't buy much but there were a few jelly beans around. I have never liked them, but found myself popping a few as I walked by. Darn it - I only ate them because they were there. It took most of the month for them to finally disappear. Happy Mother's Day! ~smile~ Roseanne

  4. Hello Angie, Wowzers, that's quite the setting for your blogging for sure. Love it. We still have a few Easter chocolates lingering. I'm putting a trail cam on my must haves when we move to Colville. Love the series you shared from yours. Hope you have a fabulous weekend and Mother's day!

  7. Ooooh, I love your blogging deck. You're very disciplined to have a chair and table. I see myself writing and reading (and snoozing) on a comfy cozy chaise lounge.

When I came to your photo of the lake, I had to scroll back to remind me that it was recently under snow. I loved those shots of the bear in the tree. He's so cute. His fidgeting reminds me of me sitting on a chair when I was young. Cheers to you, Angie and your lingering!

  8. Sounds like a full but fun week for you! The bear would be so much fun to watch as he hibernates in the tree. Your blogging space looks like a wonderful place with a fabulous view!

  9. Oh Angie, what a glorious blogging studio! And I can't get over the contrast in weather in just a few short weeks. We have sensed it, too, here in Suffolk, UK, though the last predicted show didn't actually reach us. It's a glorious morning as I type, but I gather rain is on the way. What sprited bear photos from the bear-cam! Thank you for your kind comments on my blog.

  11. And 'sprited' should be 'spirited'. The blog gremlins are at work!

  12. It seems like the seasons are condensing and revolving faster every year. I think your lingering idea is a great goal … it tends to slow down time AND you have the perfect deck and scenery from which to do it.

Nice to see the animals captured on your trail cam.
No Easter candy lingering around here because we didn't have any! : )

  24. Your trail cam shots are wonderful. I didn't know bears were the reason why the Forest Service closes the ski areas when there's still snow, but it makes perfect sense! Very interesting to learn.

Enjoyed all the pictures ... and I have to say that 99% of the time I'm happy with the tiny home lifestyle we've chosen but the sight of your 'blogging studio' has me a bit envious. (I'll just think about how I hate cold and snow and that will get me back to the 99% happy ;>)... Your home is just beautiful.

Will you have to change your jelly bean background now that you have eaten all your candy?

  25. the tree must be very large for the bear to sleep in it :)

    Very interesting shots today :)

  26. Hello Angie..It's late and I was trying to think of a way to get the squirrel to leave the box alone. I keep a super soaker kids water gun to scare an animal if I have to. They are tenacious and will keep at it if it is hungry. Here I leave out sunflower seeds so they leave the bird feeders alone. It works here. I will see if there is some better idea...Michelle

  27. My comment disappeared! So here it is again! I feel your excitement about the turkey, coyote, bear. You will get used in no time to the "normal" mountain sightings:):) Loved that you shared them with Al Seasons! Have fun exploring some more this week!

  28. I don't think I'd get much done with that view - no tea towels and no blog. I always enjoy visiting and seeing your new heavenly landscape.

  29. I finished the last of the Easter candy last week. (And by the way, love your jelly bean background!). What a remarkable difference. It's beautiful to be sure, but all that snow would get me down. I know because I live in Michigan and it was a LONG winter!

Thanks for visiting The Marmelade Gypsy and leaving such a kind comment! It's nice "meeting" you.

  35. Hello Angie. I am back from our Menorca break and catching up with everyone. This is an exciting time for you I can see. I would love to be around there to see those bears waking up. I guess they emerge rather hungry? And perhaps dangerous?

  36. Love your blogging deck Angie...my favorite place to journal what I see. And the view!!!! Wow!!!!!!!!!!...I hope no one harms those bears.... Michelle

  38. It is rather amazing how quickly the seasons can change, even when one believes it might never happen. Great images of local visitors captured by your trail cam. Your deck viewing station is where I'd be every second possible. Enjoy!
