Mist skimmed the fields as we navigated 5 farm gates between us and access to the lake. An unfamiliar person could easily become disoriented and lose her way in this fog. Normal objects suddenly loomed and took on mystical proportions.
At one point, Dear Neighbor Friend leaned over and peered at something near the ground. "What is it?" I queried, thinking of the young skunk we had seen not far from this spot on a previous outing. "A spider web," she said. Night-time dew bestowed pearls of water along every angle of the web. I am sure spiders have spun webs in these same locations before, but without the bedazzle, they are readily overlooked.
The mist had begun to lift as we launched our kayaks, but there was still enough about to lend a mysterious aspect to the lake.
At a time like this, you can imagine yourself in Loch Ness, Scotland, with the mist swirling, and a lone piper high on the moors. And the Loch Ness monster rising from the deep - but wait, it is only a merganser - yikes - our imaginations are getting the better of us! (Dear Neighbor Friend told me about kayaking with a friend in similar conditions, and encountering the merganser in the mist. I may have embellished the story a little …)
Can you see the wee duck in the top center of the photo? |
That's what I call Morning Glory.

Kayaking in the early morning mist sounds like a magical enterprise. What a great and healthy way to start the day. Sharing the experience with a neighbor of like mind makes it even better!
ReplyDeleteMorning glory, indeed! I especially like the art work of your friendly spider! The mist on the lake is really lovely! Wishing you a grand day!
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful there. A perfect place for kayaking.
ReplyDelete...fall can be the time for glorious mornings! Thanks Angie for hosting.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to spend the morning! I feel like a slug compared to you....lol Nice photos! :) Kit
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots!
ReplyDeleteHi! Your morning mist photos are very cool. It's autumn now. But reading your sentences,I remembered a poem.
ReplyDeleteThe year's at the spring,
And day's at the morn;
Morning's at seven;
The hill-side's dew-pearl'd;
The lark's on the wing;
The snail's on the thorn;
God's in His heaven--
All's right with the world! By Robert Browing.
I usually have a general plan for the day (old habits die hard and this is generally a good one to have), but I’ve learned to be flexible ... sometimes wonderful things just happen! Your kayak day was beautiful .... all the more so because I would imagine that kayak days are soon to end for the season. You will of course replace kayaking with different beautiful adventures, planned and unplanned!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a glorious morning. I have no plan today, but I need to do some weeding. ho hum.... Have a fabulous week and thanks you again for the link up.
ReplyDeleteAngie I loved your imagery of the lone piper high on the moors to accompany your misty lake view! How nice and peaceful it must be to kayak on such a place.
ReplyDeleteI also enjoyed reading last week's post about what is growing in your garden. We were busy all week with the grandchildren, so I did not get a chance to write a post. I am always surprised when facebook memories come up of how our gardens looked when we first moved here 6 years ago as we have planted so much since and through trial and error have had to replace some landscaping while others flourished. Your property is so much larger so I can only imagine what a big job it is to keep track of it all and the care it all requires. Your trees wrapped in wire looks like a lot of shrubs and roses my small backyard, as it is the only true deer deterrent...lol. Have a wonderful week!
Hello, Angie, I’m back. I’m happy for you that you were blessed with such wonderful glories of the early morning; a red glow in the morning sky, lacy spider-web, atmospheric misty lake, to name a few. I’m not an early riser without special occasion, but I’m stimulated to rise early by this post. My Morning Glory today is flowers that have the same name. I found fresh flowers this morning in the garden. They still keep flowering one by one. Have a glorious week.

What a glorious morning you and your neighbour friend experienced....a Morning Glory indeed! It always seems magical to walk where everything is shrouded in mist. The cobweb is spectacular, as are your sublime photos and beautiful words.
