Mosaic Monday #181: A Bigger Boat

As the family planned our vacation to Grand Cayman, the men finalized the details of a deep-sea fishing trip.  8 hours on a boat.  Hmmm. Not my cup of tea!!!

But they seemed to have a good time!  They all had plenty of turns in the "fighting chair".

And came back with enough tuna for more than two meals!

Check out the videos - the men also pulled in some barracuda, but they are not recommended by the locals for eating.

So, what are the ladies to do?  Go to the spa, of course!  And enjoy the tuna!  (with plantains, and rice and beans)

December 2012 treated our family to Grand Cayman diving for the first time, and Man with Snorkel booked our dives through Living the Dream Divers.  It's hard to grasp that we have known the owners, Gary and Liz, for 10 years.  We felt an immediate affinity for them, since they are originally from the UK.  But it goes beyond that, to the way they treat their clients, like family!  They have watched our kids grow up, and we have witnessed the growth of their business.  I will write a little more about that in a future post!

For the Fiance, this was his first time diving after he achieved his certification - a special moment!  Man with Go Pro did not take any photos the first dive - the emphasis was on making sure the "kids" had a good experience - even for our children, it had been five years since they had been diving!  (Spousal Unit and I, having arrived a couple of days ahead, already had two dives under our "weight" belts!)  So, the photos I share below were taken over two days and several dives.  Enjoy!

All this hard work (!) diving makes everyone hungry.

    Made me think of flying to the Bahamas many years ago. We acted on the phrase, "your gonna need a bigger boat," but we actually didn't. We sold the 30' twin motor Baylines for a 24 footer. It's easier to handle and enough room for our small trips out on the nearby ocean. - Margy

    Hi Angie...I hope you are doing well. I would get sea sick out on the water, but I so enjoy good fresh fish. Those tacos that you all had looked delicious. My oldest daughter has been to the Grand Caymans and loved it. It seems that we shall never be able to travel again, but not letting go of the dream. Take care and stay safe~

    Love Grand Cayman and love deep sea fishing. I used to take folks out deep sea fishing years ago on our 60ft fishing yacht, we'd go 90 miles out. I do miss the sea adventures.

    What a wonderful vacation! My husband has done deep sea fishing in Key West and he caught a giant "wahoo" fish that fed the many people in his group that evening. He brought it to a restaurant that prepared it two ways. I toured Hemingway's house while he was fishing. I loved the scuba diving videos too!

    Yes, I loved to be on a boat. We made holidays on the River Shannon. And ... by the way, we had 'Anglerglück', too.

    Hello Dearest Angie; My husband LOVE fishing & sometimes he fishes alongside the seashore. He has handicap on his right leg, but it doesn't matter fishing that way p;-) He looked really envious for the GREAT time with all the family (^^♪）　I wonder how wonderful diving is.　　Lots of Love; Miyako from Japan.

    My husband learned to scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef a long time ago. I can't dive myself - but for me 8 hours on a boat would be heaven! (Even if I'm not a good fisherwoman ;-)

    I love that last quote and I LOVE the sea! I've never been diving but you can sure see a lot more down deep in the water. The fishing looks like fun too but I would need some help if I caught anything! What a fun trip you had! I'm so happy for you!

    Oh Angie, what a marvelous vacation you had with your kids. I've not been diving, but snorkeling was a fascinating experience for me, in the Caribbean - all that wonderful life beneath the surface! Thanks for sharing your adventures.

    What a great outing for all of you. The fishing would be great but I can tell you I don't do well in the open sea on a boat. The diving looks spectacular. The water is so clear and look at all the fish!

    I can understand why you might not eat a porcupine fish but not eat a barracuda. Perhaps I need to google that? I thought it to be a shark. Fishing versus shopping? no contest.

    Looks like the men had a good day of fishing, but yippee for the ladies going to spa. I would certainly choose the spa over the fishing. Nice pictures on your dive. You really captured a huge variety of fish and interesting things down below. Sounds like everyone had a wonderful time.
